Telehealth

You know it’s important. You know you need your therapy. But it’s so hard!

Just the thought of that commute to the office makes your blood boil. You can feel your stress level rising. Or you can’t ask for any more time off work, and your lunchtime is too short to drive to a session and make it back.

You want to go, but you look at the weather forecast. You can’t take the risk of an accident – you depend on your car.

You’d really like to get a session in today, but it’s just hard to find childcare, and sometimes, the sitter cancels at the last minute.

You’ve got to speak with your therapist, but you’re feeling ill or can’t stand the thought of leaving your house and dealing with people today. Or you broke your leg or had a medical procedure and can’t drive.

Whatever your situation, there’s a solution: telehealth!

You’ve heard of it, but what is it, exactly?

Telehealth refers to practicing psychotherapy via a digital platform instead of a regular visit to a brick and mortar office. It’s a video visit via a device connected to the Internet, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Why choose telehealth?

There are many reasons people choose telehealth or video sessions over in person.

No commute. No traffic. No lost time at work. And inclement weather? No problem.

No childcare? No clean laundry? No problem. And if you can’t get out of the house, for any reason? No problem.

It’s simple.

Just find a quiet room where you feel comfortable talking.

The only other thing you need is a computer or a cell phone with a steady service, so you can sign in and we can video conference our session.

Then, get comfortable, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and you’re ready to go!

We’re still meeting face-to-face

Video sessions can provide the same benefits as in-person therapy – and even some additional ones.

Since we’re using video, we can still see each other. This means we still have the full scope of facial expressions and body language that would be missing from a phone session.

And via video, you allow me a window into your world. Now, I have access to what your regular environment looks like, which can bring our relationship to an even deeper and more effective space.

Research continues to affirm the efficacy of telehealth services, with studies showing that videoconferencing is as effective as face-to-face treatments. Some studies have even found that telehealth services may be preferable to in-person care in specific populations and situations.

So, how do I access my session?

Since Skype and Facetime can’t provide the confidentiality and security level required for health care services, I use Simple Practice for my video sessions. Simple Practice is confidential and encrypted, so you know our sessions are 100% private.
